ACCENT COACHING

Sound like a native!

Are you preparing for an audition, an acting role, or a competition where you need to speak another language?

I judge competitions, and I always mark down points when singers don't know how to speak the language they're performing in. Let me help you sound authentic and pick up those extra points in competitions and auditions. I'll work one on one with you to help you sound like a native.

I'll be honest: even seasoned professionals get this wrong. You've seen it in film and on stage, a performance that's otherwise flawless, undone the moment the accent doesn't hold up. It's one of the most fixable gaps in a performer's toolkit, and one of the most overlooked. Whether you're stepping into a role, walking into an audition room, or standing on a competition stage, sounding authentically native isn't a small detail. It's the difference between a good performance and one no one can look away from.

I'm from Switzerland, which means I grew up speaking Swiss German with friends and English with my mother. In school, the official teaching language was German, and French was required as well. I studied French for six and a half years with native speakers, lived in France for two years, and learned Italian from a native speaking teacher.

At the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, I received language coaching from the opera coaches there, and later continued that training in New York with coaches from the Metropolitan Opera.

I also have the kind of ear that lets me imitate accents precisely, and the vocal training to pinpoint exactly where and how to shape your instrument to make the right sounds.

I taught high school French in Utah for two years and took over several German classes along the way. Honestly, I was appalled. Having a degree in a foreign language doesn't mean an American teacher sounds anything like a native speaker, and it doesn't mean they can teach you how to actually pronounce words and phrases. The same goes for voice teachers who took one semester of a language: that's not the same as knowing how the language is supposed to sound.

If competitions and auditions are on the horizon, I'll help you make sure the language isn't what holds you back. Schedule now.
